The police sure like to nab evil doers in our parking lot
This storm looked like it was gonna turn into a funnel cloud and suck us up into the sky
One weekend we went to Pearsall for a divisional autocross, and stayed just outside the gates of the TVTC tire testing center.
With hundreds of yards of open space around, we managed to attract a neighbor 10 feet away with a noisy generator
M-Coupe poised to enter TVTC
A large crowd converged from all over the state to enjoy the grippy 800x800 foot deluxe asphalt pad
On the grid amongst B-Stock classmates including two RX-8's and an M3
Colorful.
Poised at the starting line
Hustling through the course with street tires howling in protest
Best time on Day 1 was about 3.7 seconds off the pace. Got within 2.8 seconds on Day 2, respectable for being on Cheep Street Tires (tm).
Later, I made a quick trip to Belgium to work on some simulators. Note this weird sign, featuring holes to minimize it's impact on nature, apparently.
A tiny Smart car humming down the highway. It wouldn't stand a chance against a Suburban.
Denderleeuw is where I work and Affligem is where I stay in Belgium.
Must say the place looks almost pleasant in the summer
Entering Denderleeuw. Distinctive smelling pig smelting factory is just ahead.
Europa!
Unusually, no oncoming traffic to spar with on the approach today
The Globe Show Center is to the left
F1 swingarm simulator being tested outside
Baloo, sporting typical Belgian summer driving attire, tries out the new LCD screen
Baloo enthuses about the experience
But soon realizes there may be a "fit issue".
Mengel is powerless to extract the great Baloo. Good thing he enjoys driving! We eventually got him out with the aid of a forklift (not pictured).
My friends Filip and Saskia and their three young'uns drove up from Brugge
Yes, we now simulate those two-person F1 cars you hear about
All the kiddos enjoyed test driving the F1 cars
The hoteldisco Patridge, ablaze with lights and thumping with bass well into the night. Adios, Belgium!
Back in Austin, it was quite a scene at Blues on the Green
Throngs settled in for the free show
Naturally, Debbie ran into her cousin Carolyn in the crowd, here shown fully clothed
Blues guitar pioneer Hubert Sumlin headlined the show
A guy with a Top Notch t-shirt won the seat on the onstage couch, good for him
Johnny Moeller on guitar
Shawn Pittman on guitar
Roscoe "P. Coltraine" Beck and one of his own custom basses
Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff on sax
Clifford Antone on towel
The sharp-dressed Jody Denberg was the uber-boring emcee.
Pinetop Perkins on piano
Pinetop at work
Pinetop's piano key tie had his name sewn on it, very cute
Clifford gives Hubert a proper introduction
Hubert's da man
Bend them strings
Pick that thang
Having fun and lookin' fine
Take care of your tools
The sun set dramatically between sets
Shawn Pittman doing his best imitation of Hubert's longtime boss Howlin' Wolf
The two young 'slingers seemed to delight in jamming with a legend
Pinetop finalized a fine evening
One more thing to do while we're in Austin: these uncolorful and overly frilly lambrequins must go!
Nice work measuring that one, Alfa...
Presumably this was left short so as to not interfere with a 128 ounce Mega Gulp in the cupholder below
We found the lambrequins in the bedroom/office particularly unattractive and ill-fitting
So off they come!
Stacks of ugly lambrequins await storage
The better part of one day was spent remounting miniblinds to be straight and at consistent heights
The DVI workshop tuned into a lambrequin factory for a few evenings, then we hit the road, planning to get them covered and installed down the road somewhere.
